Tell Us a Little About Yourself
I’m originally from Alaska and discovered my love of the Pacific Northwest upon arrival at Pacific Lutheran University in the early 2000's and I’ve loved it since! I have a Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies focusing on Community and Social Change from University of Washington. My passion has always been non-profit work to advance community wellbeing, social justice, and positive youth development. I live in Tacoma with my husband, 4-year-old daughter, kitties, chickens and a humble little urban farm full of native and pollinator-friendly plants!
Do You Have Any Pets?
4 chickens: Harriet, Beatrix, Gurtrude, Eggatha. 2 kitties: One-Eyed-Willie + Astoria.
Do You Have Any Hobbies?
I'm an avid seamstress and quilter and fiber arts enthusiast. I'm also a flower gardener and we have an urban farm (no grass, just veggies, herbs, fruits and flowers).
What is Your Favorite Way to Relax?
Put on a familiar show, listen to a familiar song, or read a familiar book.
When and Why Did You Join Elevate Health?
I joined Elevate Health in July 2022. I graduated with my master's from the University of Washington in 2021 while working in social service. I had wanted to lean into my passion for equity and social justice and made a career change in that direction.
What Kind of Work Do You Do at Elevate Health?
As Community Engagement Manager, my position allows me to be out-front and behind the scenes. I get to interact with our incredible partner organizations and find creative ways to celebrate, support and amplify their work.
What Do You Like About Working for Elevate Health?
I have the privilege and pleasure of working alongside people who have the most incredible minds and passionate drive to point our community towards the vibrant, thriving community we deserve to have. I couldn't be more grateful to get to work with these brilliant individuals!
What Is Your Favorite Thing To Do in Pierce County?
With 225 miles of coastline in Pierce County, I say get out on the water! My family (husband and 4-year-old daughter) and I love to paddleboard and kayak at Thea Foss and exploring Owen Beach and Sunrise Beach. We're also big fans of hiking up to Camp Muir and getting pie at the Copper Creak Inn on our way back home.
What is Your Favorite Restaurant in Pierce County?
I have to say Cooks Tavern for a few reasons - they support local artists and commission themed art based on their menu (all their artwork is for sale!), they have a quarterly regional menu that changes and is ALWAYS a hit out of the park that explores cuisine across the word, and they're open for a fantastic brunch, lunch or dinner.
Are You Involved With Any Communities in Pierce County?
My husband, daughter and I volunteer with CHIP in! - Metro Parks habitat restoration volunteer group. I also have the pleasure of serving as a board member for the Tacoma Parks Foundation. Additionally, we donate our extra produce each growing season to Food Is Free, Tacoma.
