On February 4th, 2020, the Community Advisory Council convened for the first time since its January 2020 elections.
New Chair Doreen Vandervort led the council through the day's agenda and supported the dialogue throughout the session.
Representatives from Pierce County Transit and Beyond the Borders joined the meeting to educate the council about the different transportation programs offered in Pierce County. The complexity of transportation in our region and how it's managed had the council in awe. They were particularly impressed by the Beyond the Borders program, a ride-share program that provides transportation options to community members in rural areas. It is aimed at eligible riders in east and south Pierce County, who are outside of the Pierce Transit service area. Through the program eligible riders are able to access public transit, medical services, employment and shopping. The service is free for eligible riders, including people with disabilities, seniors 65+, youth aged 12-17, and those who identify as low income. For additional transportation resources, please visit the 'Resources' page of the Pierce County Transit website.
In March, the CAC will decide next steps on how they would like to disseminate information about Beyond the Borders in the community.
Lastly, the council completed conflict of interest forms, and signed off on receiving and reviewing the 2020 charter.
