Joseph Explains: Low-Cost Swim Lessons in Pierce County

Finding swim lessons in Pierce County with clear pricing can be hard. Let's cut through the noise.

Here are a few places across the county that are making swimming easier to access this summer.

First up is Parks Tacoma. With programs at Mount Tahoma High School, Eastside Community Center, the Center at Norpoint, and People’s Pool, families can register for lessons for all ages—from toddlers to adults. Two‑week sessions cost about $56, and financial assistance is available by application.

If you live southeast of Tacoma in cities like Fife, Midland, and Puyallup, the Mel Korum YMCA and the Fife Aquatic Center are great options. As with every YMCA in Pierce County, the cost of swim lessons is included with a membership, and income-based scholarships are available upon application. At the Fife Aquatic Center, you can access an eight‑class session for about $116.

Families in Gig Harbor can explore lessons at the Tom Taylor YMCA and Beard Swim Co.. Tom Taylor YMCA follows the same membership and scholarship structure as other YMCAs. Beard Swim Co. offers private and group lessons starting at about $35 per session.

In the Steilacoom, Lakewood, and Spanaway areas, options include the Lakewood YMCA, Oakbrook Swim and Tennis Club, and Kinder Swimmer Spanaway. Each requires a membership but offers classes for all ages and skill levels.

Make the most of this summer by making swimming a new life skill!
